Do Turtle Island Foods contain a lot of sodium?
We understand people's concerns about sodium and try and limit the amount of sodium in our foods. People on low sodium diets should check out our tempeh line, which is very low in sodium and consider cutting portions in half. Since our products are often compared to meat, some salt is required to carry this flavor. In nearly every case, we have been able to achieve great taste with significantly less amounts of sodium than the meat counterparts to our products. Check here for full comparison table.

Tofurky Roasts, Sausages, Franks and Deli Slices all contain premium vital wheat gluten, sourced from Canada, the US and Australia. We do not buy wheat gluten from China, and our trusted wheat gluten supplier of 12 years is not involved in any of the pet food recalls. Gluten, the protein part of the wheat kernel, gives our products a unique meat-like texture.

Our Soy, Five Grain, Indonesian and Veggie Tempeh products are gluten free.

Are your products kosher?
All of our products are certified kosher-parve by Kosher Services of America (KSA) with the exception of the Tofurky Feast, Gravy and Wild Rice Mushroom Stuffing parts of which are made for us in a plant that is currently without kosher supervision.

This depends on the product and the cleanliness of the refrigerator environment, length of time out of the refrigerator, etc. As a general rule of thumb, once opened product should be resealed in an airtight bag or container and returned to refrigeration as soon as possible. Under these conditions, product should be safe for three to four days. Signs of spoilage are slimy texture, off smell or growth of mold. Remember what your mother told you: “When in doubt, throw it out”.

We do not recommend eating Tofurky sausages, franks, links or roasts uncooked. Please follow the product cooking instructions on the packaging before eating.

An uncooked Tofurky Roast can be safely stored in your freezer for about 18 to 24 months.  However, after storing your uncooked Tofurky Roast in a freezer for long periods of time, you should check to make sure there is no visible freezer burn on it. Freezer burn will make the Tofurky Roast not taste very good.

Where is “Turtle Island”?
Turtle Island is the name that some Native American tribes gave to the North American continent. They believed that the earth was once all water and Turtle volunteered his shell as a home for the land animals. Thus, if you live in North America, you live on “Turtle Island”. Our offices and production facility are in Hood River, OR overlooking the banks of the Columbia River, on the western edge of the Turtle’s shell.
