Some
of you long time Tofurky customers might wonder why the nutrional
panel has changed on these new packs. Specically, why have
the carbohydrates and calories dropped? Have we reformulated
our products to take advantage of
the move towards low carb foods?
Here is the plain and simple
truth:
Several months ago, we had an opportunity to
change from the non genetically engineered tofu we had been using to a certified
organic supplier of tofu. Since
this represented everything we are about and we already were
making certified organic tempeh, we jumped at the chance.
In subsequent lab testing, we learned that this
change had lowered the carbohydrate count which in turn lowered
the
calorie count. Protein was very slightly lowered and fat
slightly increased. This was an unintended consequence
of the switch
and we decided to run with it and point out to customers
looking to control their carbohydrate intake that there
was a meat free, low carb, low fat, cholesterol free protein
available to them.
We have left the same flavor and texture
profile unaltered from previous days with the previous
tofu
supplier. If you have further questions on this, please drop
us a line. Thanks for your continued support of our products!
